The Menorca Film Festival held today the first presentation of its 4th edition at the Main Theater of Maó, which was attended by Fanny Tur, Minister of Culture, Participation and Sports of the Balearic Government, the Minister of Culture and Education of the Consell de Menorca, Miquel Àngel Maria, the councilor of the City Council of Maó, Héctor Pons, and Inés Garrell, director of the festival.
The Government supports the event through the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics (IEB). The festival, which carries out activities and screenings throughout the year, ends on July 15 and 21 with a week of outdoor cinema, during the which shows a selection of international productions with social themes and island spirit. The Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics has supported the Menorca Film Festival since its first edition: 2016 within the line of audiovisual aids made a contribution of € 6,137 while 2017 and 2018, within the plan of grants of fairs and festivals, a contribution of € 10,968 and € 25,052.50 respectively.
Malta will be the guest of honor of this year’s edition, in accordance with the vocation of the Festival Menorca’s internationalization and creation of synergies with other countries. During the festival, Menorca will be the setting and meeting point for filmmakers and cultural agents of the island of Malta, with whom it maintains the sense of insularity as a common link; This is the reason why the screening of his best films will be especially enriching to discover the look of another industry and that will generate an interesting cultural exchange.
