“Jujol a la Seu”
24/01 - 07/04
The Sant Joan Despí Town Hall, coinciding with the 140th anniversary of the birth of the architect Josep Maria Jujol, a reference of Catalan modernism, has promoted the celebration of the Jujol Year140, an artistic, cultural and social movement to spread its figure.
This event, which began in June 2018 and will last until September 2019, when it will be 140 years since the birth of Jujol, has as its main objective to disseminate the work of the Catalan architect and contribute to the international scientific recognition of a unique figure of the Modernism.
In the context of this commemoration, the Cathedral of Mallorca also wants to participate with a temporary exhibition on the figure of Gaudí’s collaborator, Josep Maria Jujol, making special mention of his intervention in the temple, which focuses mainly on the paintings of the choir, the grafittings of the chair -where Gaudí’s hand is also detected-, the ceramic mural with the shields of the bishops of Mallorca, the canopies of the sculptures of the Gothic altarpiece and the ceramic decoration and graffiti of the vaults of the Chapel of the Trinity.
The exhibition, entitled “Jujol in the Cathedral”, opens on Thursday, January 24 at 7:00 pm at the Cathedral of Mallorca.
